A look inside
Four questions every GEO recommendation has to answer
The test from Part 4 of the guide. It works on any figure anyone shows you – including ours.
Effect or distribution?
A distribution tells you where something comes from. An effect tells you what happens when you act. Most GEO figures in circulation are distributions – and they are sold as effects.
Is there a control group?
Without one, any improvement is equally well explained by the whole market moving. «Added it and got cited more» is a sequence, not a measurement.
How many runs?
The same prompt returns the same brand list in under 1 % of runs. A single AI answer is therefore not a finding – however unambiguous it looked.
Which market?
Nearly every GEO figure in circulation is US data. What transfers is the structure, not the share.
The sources
Where the figures come from
Comparis and Innofact on usage in Switzerland, Google on AI Overviews and AI Mode, Pew Research Center on click behaviour, SparkToro on zero-click searches and the consistency of AI answers, Similarweb on citation share by industry, Ahrefs on schema, llms.txt and rankings, Muck Rack on where citations come from. Plus three research papers (KDD 2024, NeurIPS 2025, arXiv 2026), the Semrush AI Visibility Index Mini Study and OpenAI's crawler documentation. The full list with dates and references is on the last page of the guide.
Who it is for
For managing directors and marketing leads in Swiss SMEs who have a GEO proposal on the table – or will soon. No prior knowledge needed, only the willingness to ask for the source.
