AI visibility, measured: does ChatGPT name you?

Nobody can guarantee a mention in ChatGPT, but it can be measured: every month, with your customers' questions, on six platforms.

Illustration of Measuring AI visibility

In short

AI visibility is the share of answers from AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews that name your company or link to it as a source.

It is measured with a fixed set of test questions that are asked the same way every month. A single answer tells you nothing: the same question returns the same list of companies in fewer than one in a hundred cases (SparkToro, 2026).

Only the share across many runs means something, kept separate for each platform.

  • Mention rate: how often you're named
  • Citation share: how often your website appears as a source
  • Competitors: who is named in your place
  • Trend: the same questions and the same method every month

What we measure

Using the method we defined for alpeniq.ch:

  • 36 fixed test questions, built from your offer and real search queries – across five types: recommendation, problem, comparison, brand and Swiss regulations
  • Six platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google with AI Overviews and AI Mode, Claude, Microsoft Copilot and You.com
  • Every question at least three times per platform, from Switzerland, in fresh sessions with no history – the way a new customer would ask
  • Mention rate: in how many answers your company is named
  • Citation share: in how many answers with sources your website is linked, and which page
  • Competitor comparison: which competitors are named, how often and with which page
  • Tone and accuracy: does the AI recommend you, merely mention you or add a caveat – and is what it says about you correct?
  • German sources: where a Swiss question is answered with euro prices, German law and .de sources
  • Citation core: which sources answers in your field rely on – directories, trade media, competitors
  • Location: how the answer changes when the question says "in Zurich", "in Switzerland" or names no place at all

What you get every month

Numbers you can verify:

  • The metrics for each platform separately – an average across all of them would hide where things are moving
  • In the first month, the baseline: the starting value for every later change
  • The raw answers to read for yourself, not just the analysis
  • The sources cited in your field – and where you're missing
  • Wrong or outdated statements about you, with the answer they appear in
  • Measures ranked by evidence: first what demonstrably works

When measuring pays off

Five situations where guessing gets expensive:

  • Customers tell you ChatGPT said something wrong or outdated about your company
  • You want to know whether work on your AI visibility is worth it before you pay for it
  • You already pay an agency for GEO or LLMO and want to see whether anything is moving
  • Competitors get named in AI answers, and you don't
  • You're planning content or media work and want to see afterwards whether it reaches the answers
  • Not suitable: if you want to buy a guaranteed mention – nobody can honestly sell you one

How the measurement works

What happens at each step, what you have afterwards and what you contribute.

The steps follow the stages of ALPENIQ ASCENT, our model for the whole digital ascent. See ALPENIQ ASCENT

  1. 1. Stage 1 · Assess

    Set the questions

Your offer, your search data and the questions from sales conversations become a fixed set of test questions. It stays the same from then on – otherwise the months aren't comparable.

    Result
A fixed set of test questions that stays the same every month
    Your part
The questions your customers ask in sales conversations
  2. 2. Stage 1 · Assess

    Measure the baseline

The first month is a starting value, not a result. It shows where you stand today and who is named in your place.

    Result
A baseline: where you stand today and who is named in your place
    Your part
    Nothing on your side
  3. 3. Stage 1 · Assess

    Analyse

Separately for each platform: mentions, citations, competitors, tone and the sources the answers rely on.

    Result
Mentions, citations, competitors and sources for each platform
    Your part
    Nothing on your side
  4. 4. Stage 5 · Nurture

    Measures ranked by evidence

First what has evidence behind it: access for AI crawlers, no snippet restrictions, content that answers the questions fully, mentions in editorial sources rather than paid placements. Everything else we label as an experiment.

    Result
Measures ranked by evidence, experiments labelled as such
    Your part
    Approve the measures
  5. 5. Stage 6 · Transform

    Re-measure every month

The same questions, the same method, every month. That's how you see whether anything is moving – and on which platform.

    Result
The same comparison every month, separately for each platform
    Your part
    Nothing on your side

Is this a fit?

Honest up front, so neither of us wastes time.

A good fit if …

  • You want to know whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews name you
  • You want a measurement that is comparable month by month
  • You want to see whether your GEO work has an effect, rather than believe it

Not a fit if …

  • You want a guarantee that an AI will name you
  • A single answer is enough proof for you

Common questions

Why ALPENIQ?

We started with alpeniq.ch: our first automated series in October 2026 asked our 36 questions more than 4,400 times on one platform (Claude), in German and English – and showed us that our own visibility hangs almost entirely on a single page. The other platforms will follow, using the same method.

And we keep what has evidence apart from what is merely claimed. There is evidence, for example, that 84 per cent of AI citations come from editorial sources and 0.3 per cent from paid placements (Muck Rack, May 2026). For many other GEO recipes there is no proof of effect – we label those as experiments, not as a service.

Your next steps

The strategy call is free. After that, it's your decision.

  1. 1. Strategy call, 30 minutes

We listen, look at where you stand and which step moves you forward fastest right now. We only name a price once the scope is clear.

  2. 2. Summary and quote

You get in writing what we understood, plus a quote with every item listed. Whether you accept it is up to you.

  3. 3. Kick-off and delivery

The kick-off turns everything from the call into the concept. Then we work through the process, step by step.
